Kapaleshwar temple is the biggest temple in Chennai. Its situated
near kutchery road. Kapaleshwar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. its
a fine example of architecture and sculpture. this temple has some
beautiful sculptures, among which the bronze idols, of 63 saivite
which adorn the outer courtyard under the old tree, is a small
shrine depicting goddess depicting goddess Parvati in the form of
peacock. The special feature of the temple are 63 saints, canonized
for leading exemplary lives of devotion and penance. The
figure of these 63 Nayanmars (saints), which adorn the outer yard of
the temple, are carried in a colourful procession on the eighth day
of the 10-day Arupathumoovar temple festival held in March-April
every year. |
